12/23/2004 - AHF sponsors "Congressional Hungarian American Caucus
Staffer Appreciation Day" on Capitol Hill. The Center for
Hungarian American Congressional Relations (CHACR)
helped AHF organize the event aimed at thanking congressional staffers
that represent the now 25-member strong Hungarian American Caucus for
their support for Hungarian causes.
The
event was held on December 2nd, 2004 in a large hearing room in the Rayburn
House Office Building. Over 60 guests sampled delicious Hungarian Chicken
Paprika, cucumber salad and more from Maximilian's and wine from our newest member, Monarchia.
The relaxed atmosphere provided the perfect opportunity to get to know
those that have helped so much at a more personal level.
The event was an important milestone for AHF as it officially re-established
its presence in Congress. Staffers were introduced to AHF members who
thanked them for their support
on various Congressional resolutions and their hard work on issues important
to the Hungarian American community such as the successful campaign on Szelmenc, church and property restitution
in Rumania, violence in Vojvodina, and
more.
The
establishment of the Congressional Hungarian American Caucus is a great
achievement for the Hungarian-American community. This bipartisan group
of distinguished House members seeks to represent interests of Hungarian
American constituents; foster bilateral relations between Hungary and
United States; and protect the rights of Hungarian minorities in Europe.
On June 4, 2003, four members of the US House of Representatives
signed a letter that signaled the establishment of the Hungarian American
Caucus. AHF thanks the efforts of CHACR for their work in establishing the Caucus. - Photos and article by Bryan Dawson
