AHF and CEEC Meet with National Security Council

The American Hungarian Federation Participates in White House Meeting on April 24, 20094/25/2009 - The American Hungarian Federation Participates in White House Meeting... On April 24, 2009, the Central and East European Coalition (CEEC) met with Jeffrey M. Hovenier, Director for Central and Eastern Europe, National Security Council, and Katherine M. Helgerson, Director for Southeast European Affairs, National Security Council. The CEEC is comprised of 18 national organizations, representing more than 20 million Americans who trace their origin to Central and Eastern Europe.

The American Hungarian Federation (the "Federation"), an active member of the CEEC.The American Hungarian Federation (the "Federation"), an active member of the CEEC, participated in the meeting and was represented by Frank Koszorus, Jr., co-president and chairman of the International Relations Committee, and Leslie Megyeri, comptroller and member of the board. Mr. Koszorus, who has been associated with the CEEC for 15 years, served as moderator.

The American Hungarian Federation (the "Federation"), an active member of the CEEC, participated in the meeting and was represented by Frank Koszorus, Jr., co-president and chairman of the International Relations Committee, and Leslie Megyeri, comptroller and member of the board. Mr. Koszorus, who has been associated with the CEEC for 15 years, served as moderator.The CEEC raised the following topics during the hour-long meeting: the "re-start" initiative and U.S. policy toward Russia and Central and Eastern Europe; NATO, its “open door” policy and the ongoing review of the missile shield; recent events in Georgia and Moldova; Russia's use of energy as a tool to pursue political objectives, Europe’s attitudes and the United States’ response; and the visa waiver program, including pending legislation to restrict the same, and human trafficking.

"This was a good opportunity to meet with members of the new Administration and to begin to share some of our concerns relating to Central and Eastern Europe," said Mr. Koszorus. "We plan to continue the dialogue both as a member of the CEEC and on behalf of the Federation," he added.
